Open Inquiry #6

I have begun to practice the song “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” (shown below) on the piano. It is coming along nicely and I feel that I am learning at a faster pace than my last two songs. I am definitely getting the hang of things as my learning process becomes easier and shorter with each new song I learn. I am very happy with the progress I have made so far. I feel very proud of myself whenever I play an entire song through with little/no mistakes. However, I occasionally feel frustrated when I confuse the notes when reading sheet music. When this happens, I often make mistakes by playing the wrong keys. Although I am not quite yet confident in knowing the corresponding letter for each note, I find that using numbers to read notes that correspond with my fingers is much easier and very effective (with the number 1 representing my thumb and the number 5 representing my pinky). I would definitely recommend this strategy to other beginner piano players. The next song that I am planning to try an tackle is “Jingle Bells.”
