Open Inquiry #2

I am just starting to understand the basics of playing the piano. So far, I have learned the difference between a whole note, half note, quarter note and a sixteenth note. These notes all have different sound lengths with a whole note being the longest and a sixteenth note being the shortest. I am still in the early stages of learning note location on my keyboard and learning how to read sheet music which I have found to be more difficult to remember. However, I can easily locate middle C! Although I have not made as much progress as I would have liked, I think that my learning process will develop further with more practice. I find that learning becomes easier the more time and effort you spend working towards achieving your goals. However, I think that the songs that I previously planned on learning (“Frosty the Snowman” and “Santa Claus is Coming’ to Town”) are a bit too difficult for me to start off learning as they are lengthy and have harder note combinations. I have decided to focus on “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas” as my first song because it is shorter and has more note repetition which I think will make learning how to play it much simpler. I am very excited to be able to play this song. If all goes well, I will move onto learning some of the harder songs. It would be nice to be able to play multiple songs that I could play around Christmas time!
